Robert Corley Bishop, age 80, entered into eternal rest on June 18, 2024. His stories, wisdom, and the warmth of his presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Robert Corley Bishop, fondly known as “Hard Rock”, was born to Floyd and Katherine Bishop in Pass Christian, MS, on February 11, 1944. In 1962, he graduated from Pass Christian High School, attended Gulf Coast Community College, worked at the Ingalls Shipyard for 15 years and for the United States Postal Service for 20 years. He and Betty Jo married in 1967 and raised their family in Pass Christian, MS. After his well-earned retirement, Robert enjoyed playing golf, reading a good book, trying his luck at the slot machines, and traveling to new places.
But more than anything, Robert was a devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, and follower of Christ. He loved being “Pops” to his grandchildren and never passed up an opportunity to indulge his sweet tooth with some ice cream.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Betty Jo; his children, Vicki (Nate) Benard, Robbie (Stephanie) Bishop, and Jeff (Kate) Bishop; his grandchildren, Joely (Stephen) Davis, Abbie Grace, Jaden, Blake, Bryce and Amelia; and his great-grandchild, Ezra; nine brothers and sisters, Sally (Wayne) James, Floyd “Butch” (Patsy) Bishop, Harry Bishop, Pat (Sandra) Bishop, Mickey Bishop, Sue Burnett, Tim (Debbie) Bishop, Tom (Pam) Bishop, and Jeanne (Chipper) McDermott. Preceding him in peace were his parents, Floyd and Katherine.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 21, 2024, from 11 am – 12 pm at Holy Family Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 pm in the church. Interment will be in Live Oak Cemetery.
The Riemann Family Funeral Home, Long Beach, is serving the family.
