Robert (Bob) John Bloom, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother passed away at the age of 74 at home surrounded by his family on December 26, 2025, in
Pocomoke, MD. He was born on February 14, 1951, in
Dundalk, Maryland to Roberta Ann Wienecke and William Thomas Bloom Sr.
He was a Vietnam War Veteran and a Member of the American Legion post 166, 24th St, in
Ocean City, MD, also the Disabled American Veterans DAV; and the VFW Post 194 in
Salisbury, Maryland. Immediately out of High School he joined the Army, with basic training in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, U.S. Army Airbourne School at Fort Benning, Georgia, Parachute Rigger at Fort Lee, Virginia, and Engineer Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He served in Vietnam with 101st Airbourne, 326th Engineer Battalion (Sapper Eagles) engineer dozer operator. National Service Defense Medal; Vietnam Service and Campaign Medals; Army Commendation Medal; Bronze Star w/oak leaf cluster; Sharpshooter Badge; Parachute Badge and Rigger.
Bob operated his own company, Robert Bloom Excavating, from 1985 to 2007 maintaining various tax ditches in Worcester, Wicomico, and Somerset, Counties. He especially enjoyed West Ocean City development projects and maintaining Ocean City beaches. Ocean Fishing and NASCAR Races were his favorite pastimes. He loved spending time with his friends and family, especially his great-granddaughter, Skye.
Bob leaves behind his wife of 52 years Ann Pusey Bloom, and their daughter Elizabeth Ann Bloom (Daniel Ruark), granddaughter Sierra Laura Bloom (Brianna), and great-granddaughter, Skye Ann Pruitt. Additional survivors include his eldest brother Wm. T. Bloom Jr., younger brother Gary Edward Bloom (Susan), and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Gladys Hambleton Bloom Morris, Millard Plowman Bloom, and Step-grandfather, Robert F. Morris. Also, by his maternal grandparents, Elise Shriver Wienecke and John Ernst Wienecke.
The Family wishes to thank the Veterans Administration, Dr. Clayton and care pact team in Pocomoke, for their help and support during his long battle with cancer. Also, special thanks to Dr. Ngaiza (Hematologist), Katie Arensmeyer CRNP; Dr. Zeinab Abou Yehia (Radiologist); and the staff for their exceptional ways of helping patients at Hematology and Oncology, Tidal Health,
Salisbury, MD. We also thank Coastal Hospice for their constant support during the last few months.
A Celebration of Life will be held at The American Legion on 24th Street,
Ocean City, MD on Monday, January 12 at 11:00 am for family and friends. A Private Service at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Hurlock, Maryland will be held at a later date.
