LANCASTER - Robert Lewis Bloyer, age 71, of rural Lancaster, died Sunday, January 12, 2025, at Grant Regional Hospital, after a long, courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born May 7, 1953, the son of Lewis and Darlene (Bowers) Bloyer. He graduated from Riverdale High School and later attended classes at UW-Richland Center. In 1975 he was hired as a deputy sheriff at the Grant County Sheriff’s Department. During his 30 years working full-time at the department, he was promoted to sergeant, and then to captain. He was awarded "Officer of the Year” on two different occasions. He was the principal writer of two grants that helped implement the department's 911 system, as well as the addition of computers in squad cars. After his retirement in 2006, he worked an additional 16 years as a part-time dispatcher.

He also worked as a "special" for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, taught boating safety classes for over 20 years and taught emergency vehicle operation classes at Southwest Vocational Technical School for 15 years.

In his spare time, he enjoyed playing cribbage and other card games, fishing, cruising the Mississippi River in his pontoon boat, and a cold bottle or can of Blatz, his favorite beer.

He married Marnie Jones in January of 1978. On October 16, 1999, he married Rebecca Kartman at the Castle Rock Lutheran Church. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in 2024.

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca (Becky); his daughter, Amanda, of Dubuque, Iowa; three sisters, Betty (Stan) Gurski of Rogers, AR, Cindy Bloyer of Shawnee, KS and Terry (Jeff) Hanson of Platteville; one brother, David (Delores) Bloyer of Comer, GA; his mother-in-law, Barbara Kartman of Platteville; and sisters-in-law, Jackie Lehmann of Cassville, Tammy (Dave) Huff of Cottage Grove, WI and Lori (Brian Bradshaw) of Cassville, as well as several nieces and nephews and dog Rufus.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mary Ann and Carol and his father-in-law, Carter Kartman.

Per Bob's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Grant County Hospice and the Martin Schwartz Funeral Home have been assisting the family.

Anyone wishing to make a donation in Bob's name may do so to the Grant County Cancer Coalition or to the K-9 program at the Grant County Sheriff's Department.
