Robert “Bob” Lemoyne Ackerman, age 89, of Mankato, peacefully passed away on October 9, 2025, at Oak Terrace in North Mankato, MN.
Funeral Mass 11:00 a.m., October 21, 2025, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Currie, MN. Visitation will be one hour before service at the church. Interment will be in Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery, Currie, MN.
Robert was born February 13, 1936, to Leo and Gladys (Swenhaugen) Ackerman in Currie, MN. When Robert was four and his brother James just two weeks old, their father passed away from leukemia. Their grandfather helped raise them until their mother remarried John Koppi ten years later.
Robert and Aljean (Silvernale) were married for 66 years, until her passing in December 2023. Together, they made their home in Currie, where they raised their five children, and later relocated to Mankato in 1982. Aljean was a significant and steady presence throughout his life.
He learned his carpentry skills from Monty Lindberg, a mentor who shaped Robert’s lifelong trade. He was a carpenter throughout his life, building and remodeling houses around Currie and later in Mankato. He was always creating something in his woodshop, was know for his BBQ chicken at the Currie Fourth of July street dances, and also enjoyed farming.
Robert is survived by his five children: Jeffrey (Susan) Ackerman of Rogers, Kathy Jo (Wallace) Johns of Mankato, Bryan Ackerman of North Carolina, Kenneth (LaRae) Ackerman of Mankato, and Allan (Deborah) Ackerman of Chandler, TX; he is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Leo Ackerman and Gladys Koppi; his wife, Aljean; his brother, James Ackerman; his infant sister, Geraldine; and his grandson, Nathan Ackerman.
He was a tough, hard-working man who built things that brought people together and loved his family in his own steadfast way.
