Russel G. Johnson, age 86, of North Mankato, died on October 12, 2025 at Mayo Clinic Health System, Mankato.
Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Mankato. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 15 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at church. Burial with military honors will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park.
Russell was born on December 7, 1938 in Mankato to George and Elsie (Plumb) Johnson. He graduated from Mankato High School in 1956. Russell served in the United States Army from 1961-1963 in the 3rd Armored Division, serving in Germany. On October 19, 1979, Russell was united in marriage to the love of his life, Patricia Sens at Grace Lutheran Church. He farmed and worked for Midwest Electric for 39 years. Russell was active in Key City Sertoma and the American Legion. His faith was important and he served as an elder at Our Savior’s. Russell loved traveling with Pat, traveling to Alaska, South Dakota, Florida, and spending winters in Arizona. They also enjoyed watching the MN Twins and the MN Lynx together. Russell loved maintaining his lawn and garden. He also loved fishing, camping, and golfing.
Russell is survived by his wife, Patricia “Pat”; children, Grant (Michele) Johnson, Heather (Doug) McDonald, Debbie (Dan) Walden, Diane (Dennis) Sommers, Daniel (Victoria) Klugherz, David (Becky) Klugherz, Patti Klugherz, and Ann Klugherz; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Kalley Johnson; and sister, Donna Mann.
