Robert "Bob" Leon Barton

 

Robert “Bob” Leon Barton, 80, passed away at CaroMont Regional Medical Center on October 22, 2023 with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Gaston County on November 9, 1942 to the late Thomas and Irene Barton. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Jerry Rankin.

Bob proudly served in the United States Air Force as a fireman and was deployed to the Philippines. He was a man of his word, jack of all trades with an impeccable work ethic who always wanted to make sure his family and friends were taken care of and supported. His family was his life and he was the most devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Bob’s personality embodied kindness and honesty. His hint of stubbornness and sense of humor kept his family and friends laughing constantly. He leaves behind many happy memories to be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Kathy Barton; daughters, April Hayes (Mac) and Ashley Armstrong (Brian); sisters, Becky Seng, Joyce Laws, and Tommy Sue Atkinson; and his grandson, Austin Leon Hayes.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday October 28, 2023 in the chapel at Withers and Whisenant Funeral Home with Pastor Dale Lawing officiating.
