Robert "Bob" Buckner (80) died on Saturday, December 21. He was born in Newport News, Virginia on July 18, 1944, the middle son of Cecil Buckner and Louise Carpenter Buckner.
Bob was a devoted husband to the love of his life Janet (Weich) for 59 years. Bob and Janet met in 1962 at the beach in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. They married in 1965 while Bob was on leave from the Air Force after returning from Korea. He was a wonderful father who was deeply involved in his sons' lives, including scouting and coaching youth soccer. He is described by those who know him as a man of honesty, integrity, and friend to so many. He will be sorely missed by all who know him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Louise, brother Cecil "Bud" Buckner Jr. He is survived by brother Rick Buckner (late wife Patsy), sister-in-law Marianne, children Bob Buckner (Leslie) of Knoxville, TN and Michael Buckner (Lori) of Clearwater, FL, and eight grandchildren, Haley Buckner, Kara Buckner, Emily Buckner, Meg Buckner, Andrew Buckner, Matthew Buckner, Joshua Buckner, and Katie Buckner.
A church service will be held in Bob's honor and memory at St. John Neuman's Church (Knoxville, TN) at 11:00am on Saturday, January 18. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, or St John Neumann Catholic Church Debt Reduction Fund.
