Robert A. Bupp, 102, of
Dallastown, PA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 22, 2025. He was the devoted husband of the late Helen E. (Stuart) Bupp, with whom he shared 61 wonderful years of marriage before her passing in 2007.
Bob was born on October 16, 1922, in York, PA, at 454 W King St. He was the son of the late Paul A. Bupp and Emma (Flemming) Bupp and had a brother, John, and a sister, Helen. After the death of his parents, he moved to Dallastown in January 1936 to live with his grandparents, Allen and Lucy Bupp.
Bob graduated from Dallastown High School in 1940 and went on to attend Thompson Business School from 1940 to 1941. In March 1941, he began working at York Division Borg-Warner in the accounting department. During the summer of 1941, he met his future wife, Helen, on the corner of West Main and Camp St. in Windsor.
In November 1942, Bob enlisted in the Navy and served as Store Keeper Class in the New Hebrides Islands from August 1943 to August 1945. After returning from the islands, he worked at the Penn and Grand Central Railroad Station in New York City from October 1945 to March 1946. He was then discharged from the Navy in March 1946. Following his discharge, Bob returned to York Division Borg-Warner, where he worked in the accounting department for 45 years. He retired on December 31, 1985, as Supervisor of Banking and Insurance with York Division Borg-Warner/York Corporation.
Bob was highly involved in community service throughout his life. He was a charter member of Boy Scout Troop 43 at Christ Lutheran Church in Dallastown, which was formed in 1937. After returning from the Navy, he became the advisor for Explorer Post 43 and served as the Scoutmaster of Troop 43 until approximately 1975. For his dedication, he was awarded the B.S.A. Silver Beaver Award and the Lutheran Church Lamb Award. Bob was also proud to be an 80 year member of Dallastown American Legion Post 605.
Bob was also deeply involved in his church. He was baptized in Union Lutheran Church in York and became a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Dallastown in 1936. He sang in the church choir, served on the Church Council, and was a member of the Church Finance Committee. He remained actively involved in many church activities throughout his life.
In addition to his church and scouting commitments, Bob served for ten years on the Dallastown Borough Council, including a term as Vice President. During the 1990s, he served on the Dallastown-Yoe Water Authority for approximately six years. In 1986, he joined the Dallastown Golden Age Club and sang in the Golden Age Club Chorus. He also co-chaired the Bus Committee with his wife, Helen, for 14 years.
