Robert James Casper passed away on September 18, 2024, at the age of 64, in his home in Canton, Michigan, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Robert, fondly known as Bob, was born to the late John and Joyce Casper, on January 21, 1960, in Detroit, Michigan. He spent his childhood growing up in Livonia, Michigan, and graduated from Stevenson High School in 1978.
Bob started his career in the automotive field as a mechanic at a local dealership. In 1984, he started a forty year career with General Motors. He began as a general mechanic at the GM Proving Grounds in Milford, Michigan. Across his time with GM, he worked his way up the ranks through a variety of engineering positions with notable stops along the way at the Service Technology Group, OnStar, and, lastly, GM Upfitter Integration.
Bob met his wife Michelle in 2001, and together they created a large, loving blended family with their combined seven children. Their house has become the family headquarters, where their children, grandchildren, and friends alike always feel at home. In their 23 years together, it has also been home to 12 spoiled canine children.
Bob never met a stranger and was always first to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He seldom sat still–always tinkering in the yard or tackling his next DIY project. He and Michelle relished traveling to Florida, particularly Key West. His favorite Florida activities included drinking margaritas, enjoying a slice of key lime pie, and catching the sunset. He also loved to drive with the windows down and the classic rock cranked up–using the steering wheel and dashboard as his personal drumset. But, Bob’s greatest joy was his family. Most weekends he could be found attending events with the whole family–usually centered around his grandchildren’s activities. He could always be counted on for big hugs, corny jokes, and a good tickle.
Bob will be remembered for his big heart, undying loyalty, quick wit, and tireless work ethic.
He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his wife Michelle; his children Sara (Andrew) Kruz, Adam (Lauren) Casper, Bradley (Aimee) Casper, Ryan (Brittany) Landin, Jeffery (Christen) Casper, Alyssa (Aaron) Stokes, and Nicholas Landin; and his grandchildren Noe’l, Morgan, August, Adelina, Josephine, Amelia, Taryn, Annabelle, and Ariana.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for close family and friends. Times and dates to be announced.
