Robert James Chalfant, 87, of Wabash, Indiana, died at 3:47 pm Sunday, July 20, 2025, at The Waters of Wabash East in Wabash. He was born on May 21, 1938, in Copemish, Michigan, to Russell and LouElla (Wells) Chalfant.
Robert married Carmelita Napier in Lackey, Kentucky on December 6, 1957. He retired from General Tire and Rubber Company in Wabash after 42 years. He was a member of the Hanna Masonic Lodge #61 and Fort Wayne Scottish Rite and Mizpah Shrine. Robert enjoyed traveling, mushroom hunting, spending time with his grandchildren, and loved to fish. He was an avid UK Basketball fan.
He is survived by his wife, Carmelita Chalfant of Wabash; two children, Robert "Greg" (Rebecca) Chalfant and Valisa "Lisa" (Jeff) Hashbarger, both of Wabash; four grandchildren, Robby Hashbarger, Ryan Castle, Riley (Alyssa) Chalfant, and Jasmine Chalfant, all of Wabash; five great-grandchildren, Cole, Morgan, James, Kaitlyn, and Isaac; and three sisters, Winona (Troy) Trusty of Wabash, Arvella (Dean) Martin of Fort Meade, Florida, and Dorlene (Tom) Meade of Paintsville, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Curtis Chalfant, and his granddaughter, Anita Chalfant.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Rev. Charlie Easterday officiating. Entombment will be in Chapel of Remembrance Mausoleum at Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 1-2 pm Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Shriners Children's Hospital.
