Richard Wayne Chalfant, 74, of Hokes Bluff, Alabama, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral service for Mr. Chalfant will be held at 2pm Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at Glencoe Hokes Bluff Funeral Home. Dr. Ryan Morris will be officiating the service. Burial will follow at Hokes Bluff Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12pm until time of service at the funeral home.
Born on April 22, 1951, Richard served his country with courage and distinction as a Vietnam veteran and was a proud recipient of the Purple Heart. He later retired from the National Guard after many years of honorable service. His bravery, loyalty, and strength were evident both in and out of uniform.
Richard was a devoted husband to his wife of 52 years Sandra Chalfant, and a loving father to three daughters: Leana (Kyle) Voss, Brandi (Josh) Mackey, and Julie Harbin. He was a cherished grandfather to Emily (Andrew), Elizabeth (Mathew), Trey, Will, Jacob, Rhett, and Ben, and a proud great-grandfather to Jaxon. He is also survived by his beloved sister Bobbie Jean, sister-in-law Charlotte, and brother-in-law Scott, along with numerous nieces and nephews who loved and admired him dearly.
An avid outdoorsman, Richard enjoyed hunting and never missed an Auburn football game. Though he was known for his grouchy exterior, those who knew him best understood he had one of the sweetest hearts, a man who showed his love through quiet acts of loyalty, support, and devotion to his family.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Gentiva Hospice, Dr. Allison Vann, and the staff at Riverview for their compassionate care and support during this time.
