Robert Anthony Chatwood, 79, passed away Friday, April 12, as the result of a long illness. Born in Gloucester, Robert was the son of Walter and Eunice (Bradley) Chatwood.
Bob was raised in Gloucester and graduated from G.H.S. in 1963. As a teenager and young adult, he worked for his father's company, West End Furniture Movers, and later on, driving for West End Taxi. In his younger days, he was a regular at Nick's Pool Hall having many laughs with friends and recalling a bounty of stories throughout his life.
In the 70's, Bob opened up Broadway Taxi. He started in Rockport, then later moved to Gloucester. Keeping his fares low, he made it affordable for low income and elderly customers.
Bob's true love was bargaining at yard sales, estate sales and selling his finds at Todd's Farm Flea Market in Rowley. Bob became a weekly seller at Todd's for many years; he was well known and befriended by many.
Bob is survived by his sister, Shirley Chatwood; friend and caretaker, James Tolman and his loving dog Ginger. He was predeceased by his brother, James Chatwood and nephew, Glenn Chatwood.
A Celebration of Life for Bob will be held in June at the Fraternity Club in Gloucester. Details will added to the Campbell Funeral Home website as they become available. Contributions may be made in Bob's memory to Cape Ann Animal Aid at https://www.capeannanimalaid.org. Information, directions, condolences at www.campbellfuneral.com
