Obituary published on Legacy.com by Campbell Funeral Home - Beverly on Nov. 19, 2025.
Gerald "Jerry" Thomas Koen, 86, of Beverly, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 14, 2025, after a brief illness. Born and raised in North Salem, Jerry was the son of the late James and Marie (Heenan) Koen and his stepmother, May Koen.
Jerry was predeceased by his brothers, Kevin, James, Robert, and Bradley; his wives, Ann (Harrison) and Sally (Jeffrey); and his son, Mark. He is survived by his sister Rosemary Duchesne; brother David Koen and his wife Barbara; his sons Michael and wife Debbie, Daniel and wife Elisabety, Jason and wife Pamela, and Todd and wife Kerri; grandchildren Jeffrey, Hannah, Jeremiah, Nicholas, Emma, Henry, and Brynn; and great-grandchildren Delilah and Leo. Jerry lived a joyful life filled with gratitude and deeply valued his family and friends.
Jerry graduated from Salem High School in 1957 and enjoyed a successful career as a computer programmer at Sylvania in Salem and Danvers, as well as several other companies. He was proud of the Koen family's legacy in Salem's fire service and always loved a parade, especially at the end when the fire trucks drove by with a Koen behind the wheel.
Jerry and Sally cherished time with loved ones-whether boating and fishing, swimming at the Sea Wall, or traveling to Vermont, Cape Cod, and beyond. Their favorite pastime was literally any holiday, event, or reason to celebrate at the family house on Abbott Street with friends old and new that included immediate and not so immediate family along with an everchanging variety of food & drink, a cacophony of laughter and debate, and always, sometimes loud but always bouncy background music: Abba, Simon & Garfunkel, Neil Diamond, and more Abba. During the holidays, there was a nostalgic mix of Christmas music to ensure everyone was in the holiday spirit, mixed in with even more Abba.
When not celebrating at the house, Jerry and Sally shared a close-knit group of friends including Uncle Brad, Aunt Rosemary, Marla & Bob, Rob, Hank & Pat, Maureen & Jim, Patty, Joanne, Fathers O'Grady, Mehm, Curran, Foley and many more. With these friends they shared many Friday nights at Cabot Place Restaurant as well as a wide range of travel experiences all over Europe and the United States.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 253 Cabot St., Beverly on Saturday, December 6, at 10AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Arrangements are by Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street,
