A Successful Man
“That man is a success –
who has lived well,
laughed often and loved much;
who has gained the respect of intelligent men
and the love of children;
who has filled his niche
and accomplished his task;
who leaves the world better
than he found it;
who has never lacked appreciation of earth’s beauty
or failed to express it;
who looked for the best in others
and gave the best he had.”
Mr. Robert Randall Dillon, 88, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2023.
Robert was born on April 10, 1935, to the late Severia Aldine Dillon and Lois Randall Dillon in Forsyth County, NC.
Robert was a long-time member of Southside Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon for many years. He served honorably as a military policeman in the United States Army and was very proud of his service to his country. He retired from a long career at R J Reynolds Tobacco Company in 1986.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carolyn Howard Dillon; and one brother, Donald Aldine Dillon.
Those left to cherish his memory are his two sons, Robert R. Dillon, Jr. (Cindy) and Thomas Stacy Dillon (Elizabeth); five grandsons, Ben (Kristyn) Dillon, Tommy (Emily) Dillon, Trey Dillon, Zach Dillon, and Curtis Dillon; one granddaughter, Peyton Dillon; and one great-grandson, Jace Dillon. There are no words to describe what a loving husband, father and grandfather he was.
“To all who knew him he was tender and kind,
What a beautiful memory he has left behind.”
A private graveside service will be conducted with full military honors on Wednesday August 16, 2023 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, with Rev. John Bishop officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that individuals consider donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
