Robert Holden Dougherty, beloved brother, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2025 in Shingle Springs, California at age 97.
Robert (Bob) was born on September 20, 1927 to Donald Ricketts Dougherty and Margaret Susan Holden in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
Bob was appointed as a cadet in the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 1947 and later graduated from Ohio University in 1952 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation, during the Korean War, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army, he became a missile warhead research scientist. In 1964 he ventured west to San Marino, California and then worked at North American Rockwell, Mattel Toys and later retired from the Carnation Company in Los Angeles, where raised his younger children.
Bob was curious about, interested in, had an opinion and was outspoken about seemingly - everything!
He displayed a great breadth of knowledge of history, genealogy, conservatism and religion. He was a devoted Christian and loved Jesus. He was an intellect fueled by his passion of reading non fiction books, with a huge book collection. He was committed to his daily exercise routine, healthy living, and was a world class Numismatist and a seasoned collector of many things.
Most of the last 25 years of his life was spent in Shingle Springs, CA, where he resided with his son, Kent and enjoyed watching his four grandchildren grow. He loved the interaction of a complete family and had many stories to tell each of them. He interacted with each of them regarding their individual interests in school, sports, and church – and they, in turn, always enjoyed visiting with their Papa on a daily basis.
Bob is survived by his four sons; Robert, Douglas, Kevin, Kent and his daughter Kelly. He was predeceased by his stepson, Timothy.
He's survived by 15 Grandchildren; Michael, Allison, Brendan, Andrew, Trenton, Jenna, Ryan, Joshua, Morgan, Justin, Jordon, Ashley, Kasey, Keane and Kaymen.
and 13 Great Grand Children; Brayden, Paige, Cooper, Olivia, Nolan, Braylee, Nicholas, Aubree, Finley, Hendrik, Desmond, Isaiah and Loretta.
