Robert Hay Dwyer of Louisville, Kentucky entered into eternal life on the afternoon of December 6, 2021.
Bob was born on November 28, 1939 in the town of Augusta, Kentucky to James Dwyer and Margaret (Hay) Dwyer. The third of seven children, Bob moved at a young age to Shively where he attended St. Ann grade school. He graduated from Flaget High School where he played baseball and football.
His love of sports continued well beyond his high school days. For decades, Bob served as both a high-school baseball and slow-pitch softball umpire. In addition to his service on the diamond, Bob proudly served his country as a member of the 5010 Army Reserve. Bob also was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Bob worked as an engineer for the Norfolk Southern Railroad, where he earned the affectionate nickname of "Gabby." Upon his retirement, Bob went back to school at his beloved University of Louisville, where he earned both a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Sports Administration. While pursuing his degrees, Bob became well known around the Cards' Intramural Department as a key volunteer – spending many hours as a manager of the Student Center game room. In his later years, Bob spent many hours volunteering at the Schuhmann Center.
Bob is survived by his wife of 59 years Cecilia (Deely), along with two sons, Timothy (Tamara) and John (Lynn), and three grandchildren, Colin, Garrett and Emery. He is preceded in death by his siblings Jim, Richard and Rosie and survived by Patty, Betty and Phyllis.
Visitation will be Thursday December 9 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday December 10 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road. Funeral Mass will be held at noon. at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 639 Shelby Street. Graveside services to follow at St. Louis Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy can be sent in the form of gifts to the Schuhmann Center and to Cedar Lake Lodge. Memories of Bob and messages of support to the family can be shared at www.Ratterman.com.

I will never forget our family reunions we had at Poppy Pete and Mommy Hay's farm and playing softball with Robert and Richard in the pasture field.
