Robert E. "Reb" Billman, 63, of the Stone Creek area, passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2025 in Ohio’s Hospice-Truman House at New Philadelphia.
Born at Dover, Reb was the son of the late Gerald Billman and Virginia (Vaughn) Pickering and was a 1980 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and the Buckeye Career Center. Reb exemplified hard work and determination from a young age. He dedicated his life to agriculture and farming, tirelessly working as a self-employed farm equipment mechanic. His contributions were notable, reflecting a profound commitment to the land and the agricultural community.
Reb spent over 30 years serving as a Deputy with the Tuscarawas County Sheriff's Department, where he earned the respect of his fellow deputies. His commitment to service extended beyond duty; he devoted years to the Sheriff Department’s Mounted Unit where he served as a sergeant, showcasing his dedication to both his job and the community he loved.
Reb's passion for helping others was mirrored in his involvement with area agriculture youth programs, as he was actively engaged in the area 4-H during his younger years. He later became a longtime member of the Tuscarawas County Fair Board, eventually serving as its President. His leadership contributed to the success of the fair and greatly impacted the lives of those who participated in this annual event. He also held a place in the Ohio Buckeye Hereford Association, where he served as both a member and past president, further illustrating his commitment to the agricultural community. One of his biggest passions was raising registered Hereford cattle and watching his kids and granddaughter show them at the local, state and national levels.
Beyond his professional achievements, Reb had an unparalleled love for his family, particularly his grandchildren. He cherished every moment spent with them, often saying, "If I knew that having grandchildren was this much fun, I would have had them first!" This statement encapsulates the joy and pride he derived from being a grandparent.
Reb is survived by his wife, of over 41 years, Denise A. (Reynolds) Billman of the residence; his son, Derik (Alicia) Billman and his daughter, Denelle (Chad) Caudy; his five grandchildren, Ryan Billman, Evan Kandel, Kynsleigh Billman, Chase Caudy and Layton Caudy; his sister, Christine Street and his brother, Randy (Francie) Billman.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025 from 4 to 7 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia. Following the visitation and in keeping with Reb’s wishes, cremation care is to be provided and a private graveside service will be held in Stone Creek Cemetery at Stone Creek. There will be a celebration of life and benefit for Reb in June, at the fairgrounds; date to be announced at a later time.
To honor Reb’s dedication to the area youth in agriculture, the family requests to please direct memorial contributions to the Tuscarawas County 4-H Endowment Fund, c/o Tuscarawas County Extension Office, 419 16th Street SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663. Attn: Chris Kendle
