Robert Buster "Buck" Elswick, age 82, of Richlands, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024 at his home.
He was born on April 11, 1942 in Richlands, VA. Buck was a class of 1960 graduate of Richlands High School. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Madeline Carol (Harris) Elswick, on March 1, 1961. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He loved the Lord and enjoyed time in fellowship with his family and friends. He loved sports and was a devoted Richlands Blue Tornado and Virginia Tech Hokies fan. He also enjoyed spending time listening to blue grass music. He was a hard worker, spending his career working several years for Simmons Rand - S&S Machinery and then for CLA Power-Trac until he retired in 2020. He was a former member of Community Heights Church where he served as a deacon, sang in the choir, and assisted with the 'helping hands' ministry. He later became a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his Father: William Buster Elswick; Mother: Lula Simmons Elswick; Sister: Joan Elswick Holloway; Brother: Danny Elswick; and Daughter in law: Melinda Faye Schweingrouber Elswick
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Madeline Carol Elswick
Son: James Robert "Robbie" Elswick
Granddaughter: Robyn Nichole Elswick
Grandson: William Ryan Elswick
He is also survived by several extended family members
Brother in laws: Harold Harris and Danny Harris and wife, Cathy
Sister in laws: Janey Woods and husband, Harry; Linda McClanahan and husband, Benny; and Betsy Christian
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Special thanks to Judy Meadows and Becky Walters and the rest of the nurses and staff of Legacy Hospice.
Funeral services for "Buck" Elswick will be conducted on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at 2pm at the Gethsemane Baptist Church, 2902 Clinch Street, Richlands, Virginia with Dr. Marc Brooks officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: William Elswick, Chris Christian, Ty Christian, Jason Firebaugh, Brian Cooke, and Joey McCoy. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Malcolm Robinson, Wayne Pruitt, Bob Elkins, Wayne Craig, and Dan Harris. Friends may visit with the family from 1pm until 2pm at the church on Sunday prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Legacy Hospice and Palliative Care, 1963 Second Street, Richlands, Virginia 24641 or the Alzheimer's Association, 355 Rio Rd West, Suite 102, Charlottesville, Virginia 22901.
