Robert "Max" Evans

Robert Max Evans, 81, of Springfield, Missouri, entered Heaven to be with his Lord and Savior on June 30, 2025. Max was born in the Missouri bootheel on August 20, 1943, to William Allen and Mildred Evans. He was raised on a farm in the Kennett area with six siblings, where helping to pick cotton and watermelon instilled a work ethic which endured throughout his life.
Max left the bootheel for Point Lookout, Missouri, to attend School of the Ozarks. From there he moved on to Springfield to attend Southwest Missouri State College. Upon graduation he began his lifelong career in education. Max served as teacher, coach, principal, and transportation supervisor for Strafford Public Schools in Strafford, Missouri. Upon retiring after 32 years of exemplary service, the gymnasium where he coached many games and watched his children compete was renamed the Max Evans Gymnasium in his honor. He was a longtime member of High Street Baptist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher and deacon. In 1966, Max married Kathy Bond and they enjoyed a 59-year marriage during which they raised three children. He loved visiting with family, reading about history, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Max is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy; two sons, Tim (Kelly) of Republic and Steve (Emily) of Strafford; one daughter, Kristi (Clark) Satterlee of Clever; five grandchildren, Justin (Paula), Kaylin, Marshall, Brooklynn and Cason; four brothers, Jerry of Fountain Valley, CA, Mick of Independence, MO, Gaylen (Marcia) of Quincy, IL, and Kevin (Wendy) of Blytheville, AR; two sisters, Sharon (Dan) Crawford of Cape Girardeau, MO, and Maurine Jackson of Leland, NC. He leaves behind a host of friends and colleagues who mourn his passing.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
