Robert worked as a sheet finisher with Union Camp Paper Mill for 39.5 years before retiring. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He not only enjoyed catching fish but found great pleasure in sharing his catch with others. Robert was a member and sitting vice president of the Community Hunt Club. He was an avid, skilled gamesman, and mentored several young boys and girls to safely learn to hunt and fish.
He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church. He cherished his family and was always happy to be surrounded by them and his friends. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Glenn Flythe, Sr. and Gracie Woodard Flythe. Robert is survived by his wife of 61 years, Linda Futrell Flythe; his three sons, Robert Glenn "Robbie" Flythe, III and wife Lana of Murfreesboro, Samuel Eugene "Sam" Flythe and wife Paula of Greenville, and Joseph Myles "Joe" Flythe and wife Tracey of Murfreesboro; five grandchildren; Kaitlyn (Tyler), Ryan (Olivia), Samuel (Caroline), Lauren, and Jeffrey. Robert was also blessed with three great-grandchildren; Tomlin, Clifton, and Audrey. Additionally, Robert has a surviving sister, Jane Flythe Bivens, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Murfreesboro and other times at the home. A celebration of life graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Milwaukee Cemetery with Pastor Ken Baker officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made in Robert's memory to Conway Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 158, Conway, NC, 27820 or online by clicking here.
