Robert J. Foley, age 88, died Wednesday, November 21, 2023 in Bluffton, SC. Mr. Foley was born in Pittsburgh, PA on January 2nd, 1935 to the late George and Irene Foley.
Bob was a longtime resident of Sun City and very active in the community. He sang in the Sun City Chorus and the choir at St Gregory the Great. He was in several theater productions and just loved to sing. He volunteered at Heroes on Horseback and as a swimming instructor for children.
He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and went on to earn his MBA at the Wharton School. He started his career in marketing and advertising at DuPont in Wilmington, DE, and then moved to New York, working for Grey Advertising, Women's Wear Daily, and Wilcox & Associates.
His greatest sense of fulfillment came later in his career when he worked for Jawonio, placing special needs adults in professional work settings. He also enjoyed a teaching career in marketing, where he was an adjunct in several colleges in New York.
He was an extraordinarily kind and generous man with a heart of pure gold. He had a great sense of humor and often referred to himself as "Bagel Bob" because he was known for eating and giving them away to anyone with a mailbox.
His beloved wife, Betty Foley, and brother, Elmer Foley, preceded him in death.
Bob is survived by two sons, Michael Foley of New York, NY, and Rick Foley of Bloomington, IN; sister, Martha Loya, of Seven Hills, OH; and three grandchildren, Ben, Caitlin, and Jack Foley.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am, December 14, 2023, at St. Gregory the Great, Bluffton, with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made to the Capital Needs Fund, Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 31 St. Gregory Drive Bluffton, South Carolina 29909.

My heart is so heavy at the passing of our very dear friend.

We met Bob at the audition for the play "Social Security."I was the lead, but he was the best supporting actor ever! He was so encouraging to everyone in the cast.

Off stage Bob was also such a kind and encouraging man. I do not think he ever said an unkind word about anyone.

This kindness continued to be displayed in his love for his beloved Betty. His love for her was boundless. His love and pride of you and your brother was expressed in the glint of his eyes and broad smile every time he spoke of you two and your families.

We sold our home in Sun City a couple of years ago, but we always met for pancakes at Cracker Barrel when we would come down for the winter. We never forgot him even after he was admitted to the nursing home. As a matter of fact we just visited Bob at the end of October which is why the news of his death is so heartfelt. My husband and I had the best visit reminiscing and laughing about the silliest things. I think that I shall remember that afternoon always along with his stage role, "Maurice."

May your dear father Rest in Peace, Michael. Our loss is Heaven´s gain. He is probably right now walking hand in hand with Betty across Heaven´s green fields singing one of his favorite tunes.

May the Lord bless you and your family, and may He comfort you all with your cherished memories.
