Robert Eugene "Gene" Franks of Rockwall, Texas. Born February 14, 1940 in Clarksville, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 19, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
A proud veteran, Gene served his country with a distinction as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division during the U.S. invasion of Grenada. His bravery, dedication, and adventurous spirit defined not only his military service but also the way he lived every chapter of his life.
Gene was a man of many talents. He owned and operated trucks for many years and held a pilot's license that he continued to use well into later life. A gifted mechanic with a special talent for boat motors, Gene was known for his ingenuity and skill. A builder and flyer at heart, he delighted in designing and flying model airplanes. He also loved fishing, traveling, and was always ready for his next adventure.
He deeply loved his home, where he found peace, purpose, and joy in the life he built with those he cared for most.
Above all, Gene's greatest joy was family. He is survived by his wife, Luanne Franks; his daughters, Larissa Franks and Katie White; and his son-in-law, Jim White. He was a cherished grandfather to Gavin and Reese Weisenburg, and a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Gene is also survived by his sisters, Joanne and Eva Nell. He was preceded in death by his parents, Travis and Lucy May Franks (n'ee Parker); his son, Robert Ray Franks; brothers, Wayne Franks and Dennis Earl Franks; and his stepson, Shane Barner.
Gene's love for life, mechanical brilliance, and warm, adventurous soul left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He will be forever remembered.
