Robert Douglas "Doug" French Sr.

Robert "Doug" French, Sr, 66, of Howell, left us gently and with instant peace on Thursday, August 21. He was diagnosed in 2017 and was told he had mere months to live. As was his custom, Doug had plans of his own and controlled his own destiny. No one will ever match the level of fight and bravery in this man.

Born and raised in Wall Township, and later a resident of Howell, Doug enjoyed his life as a championship racecar driver, businessman, storyteller and humorist, however his greatest success was as a husband, father, son, brother and friend. After his diagnosis, Doug found his most fulfilling calling, comforting newly diagnosed patients in the infusion/treatment room at Regional Cancer Care Associates (RCCA) of Little Silver. His positive manner and incredible story offered the most therapeutic gift possible, hope. Erasing the fear from someone's face, even for a few moments, was his most rewarding experience. He truly got to be an angel on earth.

We take great comfort in the thought of Doug with God, telling his stories to an endless population of angels that have yet to hear his jokes and yarns. We all know how entertained they will be!

Doug leaves behind his wife Roberta (Robin), whose tireless devotion and care gave Doug great strength. His five children Patricia (Matt), Sarah (Anthony), Robert, Axel, Samantha (Trevor),and grandson Anthony. His parents Bob and Claire, his sister Sherry (Bruce), brother and sisters-in-law Cathy, Richard (Tracy), and Donna (Steven) as well as many treasured aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who are considered family.

Doug's family wants to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Kenneth Laughinghouse, Dr. Richard Scher, Dr. Kelly Fitzpatrick and the incredible staff at RCCA and Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

Visitation will be at the Orender Family Home for Funerals, Old Bridge Road, Wall Township, NJ 08736, on Wednesday August 27 from 5 to 8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, August 28 at the Church of Saint Anselm, 1028 Wayside Road, Tinton Falls, NJ 07712 at 10:30 am.
