Robert E. Gillespie, 75, of Seville, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Hospice of the Western Reserve in Medina after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Bob was born on Feb. 8, 1950, in Ironton, OH to Ira and Ruth (Cox) Gillespie and was a 1968 graduate of Cloverleaf High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1971 – 1973 in Germany and was a mechanic in the NATO group. In 2003 he married Janell Madding, and they shared 22 years together. Bob retired from United Telephone/Sprint after 34 years having worked in the switching department in Wooster and Rittman and then worked for Granger Township for 15 years. He was a member of Bethel Christian Church in Rittman. Bob loved the outdoors, skiing, fishing in Canada, working in this yard and most of all being with and watching his grandson, Drexel, play sports.
Surviving is his wife, Janell; daughter Karly Madding; grandson, Drexel; sister Joanne Greer and her companion Roy Noble Jr., and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Carrie Gillespie, Randy and Diane Weber, Linda and Darrick Phillips and John and Cindy Madding.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Don Gillespie.
Private services will be held at Murray Funeral Home in Creston with Pastor Brian Gerber officiating. Burial will be in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Christian Church, 2684 Seville Rd., Rittman, OH 44270. The family extends their deepest appreciation to the staff of Hospice of the Western Reserve for their wonderful care and support.
