Mark Goodson, age 58, of Troy passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, September 25, 2025, after an extended battle with colon and lung cancer. He was born on September 20, 1967, to Ray and Patsy Goodson and went on to marry the love of his life, Melissa, on February 6, 1988. Together they raised 2 wonderful children, Corey and Caitlin. Mark was an avid hunter and fisherman that spent many hours around the ponds and in the woods near his home. He instilled his love of the outdoors in both of his children. He loved watching football and was the biggest Auburn fan! He was a hardworking man and would help anyone in need. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was the best husband, father and Pop Pop. He'll be dearly missed by all of his loved ones and friends.
Funeral services will be at 3:00pm on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Green Hills Funeral Home with visitation to begin at 1:30pm. Rev. Bo Deloney is officiating, and Hunter Goodson, Paul Watkins, Steve Laney, Troy Dansby, Anson Berry, and Tim Brady are serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Allen Davis, Bradley Floyd, and Tony Ledbetter. Burial will follow the service at Spring Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mark is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Melissa Goodson; his son, Corey Goodson (Danielle); his daughter, Caitlin Stokes (Ben); his grandchildren, Sawyer Goodson, Emily Stokes, Collins Goodson, Caden Goodson; his parents; Ray and Patsy Goodson; his brother, Michael Goodson (Kelly); his mother-in-law, Sarah Gunter (Herman); sister-in-law, Kim Lisseveld; brother-in-law, Tony Ledbetter, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert & Joyce Brady and General & Bessie Goodson; father-in-law, Alton Ledbetter and his uncles, Jerry Goodson, Terry Brady, and Wayne Brady.
The staff of Green Hills Funeral Home is honored to serve the Goodson family.
