Robert Guerrero Sr., affectionately known to all as Bobby Lee, Bob, and Coach G, was a beacon of strength and an embodiment of courage wrapped In the warmest of smiles. Born on March 19, 1958, in
Winfield, Illinois, Bobby Lee's journey through life was one of unwavering passion, relentless dedication and boundless love, which came to a peaceful close on March 18, 2026.
His legacy, vibrant and inspiring, is a testament to a life lived fully and with great purpose.
Bobby Lee was a man who not only chased his dreams but caught them, hugged them tight, and became a legend in his reality. As a Pan American Gold Champion and a stalwart in the wrestling world, he dazzled us with an undefeated tournament record, each victory sealed with a decisive pin in a wrestling style he never trained in prior. His prowess on the mat was not just a personal triumph but a shared joy for all who knew him. For 40 years, he devoted himself to coaching, molding young athletes with the same intensity and spirit that he brought to every match. His athletes were not just students; they were part of an extended family, each one chapter in the inspiring story of Coach G's life.
A lover of the outdoors, Bobby Lee found solace and joy in the serenity of nature. Whether he was camping under the canopy of stars, visiting the zoo, fishing in the tranquil waters of a secluded lake or Starved Rock, hiking in the DR or Costa Rica, or simply listening to the soulful strains of the blues, he was at peace. These moments, these simple pleasures, were the threads that wove the rich tapestry of his life.
To speak of Bobby Lee is to speak of a man whose heart was as vast as the ocean. A loving husband, a nurturing father, and a doting grandfather, firstborn son, and older brother, he was the anchor of his family. His love was the kind that did not just speak; it acted and many times in secret. It was a love that showed up, a love that supported, a love that never wavered. He was proud to serve his community and those he loved, his joy, and his most cherished accomplishment.
The words that best encapsulate Bobby Lee are courageous, selfless, warrior, and passionate. These are not just words but the pillars upon which he built his life. His Courage was not the absence of fear but the triumph over it. His Selflessness was a well from which many drew strength. His innate Warrior, was what got him through life's toughest battles, His Passion was the fire that lit the way for others to follow. A man who relentlessly pursued his dreams, not only achieved them, but also embraced them wholeheartedly, leaving lasting memories, impressions, and unforgettable mark on his reality as a legendary figure.
To have known Bobby Lee was to have known a force of nature. As we remember him, let us not dwell on the silence of his absence but rather celebrate the echoes of his influence, which continue to resonate in the lives he touched in so many. Let us carry forward the torch of his legacy, burning bright with the lessons he taught us: to live with purpose, to love without reservation, to get after it, and to wrestle with life's challenges until we pin them down in victory. Lions not Sheep!
Robert Guerrero Sr., our beloved Bobby Lee, may have left the physical world, but his spirit remains an indelible mark upon it. He showed us that life is not about the number of breaths we take but about the moments that take our breath away. And so, as we bid farewell to a man who was larger than life, let us do so with hearts full of gratitude, for having had the privilege to share in his extraordinary journey.
Like he used to say, "Life is about the journey, not the destination."
