Robert Lawrence Hammond

Robert Lawrence Hammond of Naperville, IL passed peacefully surrounded by love, care, and quiet reverence. He was 83 years old.
Bob was a loyal, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He provided consistent, unwavering support despite life's challenges, serving as a steady anchor of quiet comfort for those he loved. He was patient, kind, hopeful, and focused on what was positive and good.
Born on January 6, 1942, in Chicago, IL, Bob was raised with the values of responsibility, resilience, and quiet perseverance. He served in the National Guard during a time of international upheaval, performing maintenance on jeeps, trucks, artillery, and their mobile transports. He was committed to service.
Bob graduated from DePaul University night school with an Accounting and Computer Programming degree. From there, he landed his dream job as Manager of Information Systems at NBC TV, where he served joyfully for 25+ years.
Bob's idea of retirement was to work at golf courses, play golf, remodel kitchens and homes, care for his grandchildren, attend their special events, and care for Emilie, his wife. At 75 years old, Bob experienced a sporting renaissance, winning five Carillon Club Golf B and C Flight Championships over seven years. He loved cars, especially his burnt orange metallic Camaro Super Sport. He was also a modern-day MacGyver, regularly coming up with out of the box solutions to problems he encountered. He leaves a legacy of action driven by optimism, enthusiasm and resilience.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents George and Margaret, his brothers George and James, and his sister Kathleen. Bob is survived by his loving wife Emilie Hammond, children Steve Hammond (Jeanette) and Sherry Hoekstra (Judd), and grandchildren Rebecca, Julia, Ryan, Cole, and Caroline, as well as friends, nieces and nephews and the countless flowering plants he tended to with quiet devotion.
In honoring Bob's life, his spirit will live on in those who continue to serve, build, race, support, preserve and witness in love.
On Monday, December 22nd, a visitation will be held from 4:30 - 5:30 PM at Naperville Presbyterian Church, immediately followed by a funeral service at the church from 5:30 - 6:15 PM.
