On January 8, 2026 Pastor Robert Lee Harmon transitioned from his earthly life to eternal rest with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Pastor Robert Harmon's journey began on July 12, 1940 in Kingstreet, South Carolina. He was born to the late Robert Lee Harmon Sr. and Eva Mae McElvyn. Pastor Harmon received his formal education in Newberry County before relocating to Thomasville, NC where he graduated from Church Street School.
As a young man Pastor Harmon moved to Thomasville, NC where he met and married Margaret Caple. They were married 65 years. Robert enjoyed farming and could be often found down in the pasture of his farm at his home. Pastor Harmon was an entrepreneur owning both a taxi business and a contracting company for many years working alongside his best friend, Esau Green, who preceded him in death.
Pastor Harmon's spiritual journey began early as a member and deacon at Brown New Calvary and First Calvary Baptist Church. He later moved his membership to Friendship Baptist Church where he received his call to ministry. Pastor Harmon began his pastoral journey at Shiloh Baptist Church. He later moved to New Zion Baptist Church before being called to pastor at Cunningham Baptist Church until he retired.
Pastor Harmon is preceded in death by his parents and step-mother, Bertha Harmon, his wife, Margaret C. Harmon and two siblings, Joe Harmon and June Witherspoon.
Pastor Harmon is survived by his sister, Rosa Fleming, four children, Queen Harmon of Charlotte, NC, and three sons, Rev. Ronald Lee McRae (Rev. Dr. Linda) of Winston-Salem, NC, Clifton Harmon (Stephanie) of Thomasville, NC and Kelvin McRae of Texas, eight granddaughters, Montayea Smith (Rev. Lavorice), Constance Obesaki (Clem), Vikki McRae, Shonise McRae, Jamila Harmon and Shaqurius Green, Kiah McRae, Kierra McRae, six grandsons, Anthony Harmon, Brandon Harmon, Ronald (Darian) McRae Jr., Lenward (Rod) Smith, Raheem McRae, Christopher McRae, a host of great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
