Robert Lewellen Hazlitt died July 16, 2024, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, NE. Just 5 days short of his 91st birthday. Robert was born in Sidney, NE to Harry E. and Lillian E. (Carlson) Hazlitt. He completed the 8th grade in Sidney and quit school to help his dad on the farm during the depression. On April 3, 1953, he married Ann Roelle in Peetz, CO and to this union, four sons were born.
Robert went to work in the oil fields on drilling rigs and while working, he took a home study course on TV and radio repair. He repaired TV and radios for several years. He then went on to pass his master electrician license and did electrical work in the Sidney area. He later got his GED while teaching electrical wiring at Western Nebraska Technical College (WNTC).
Robert enjoyed playing cards, traveling with Ann including trips to Alaska and Hawaii. He enjoyed going to the lake with kids and grandkids and loved his occasional stop at a casino. Bob and Ann traveled to watch kids and grandkids activities. Bob always had a project in his garage. He restored two Ford Falcons.
After Robert retired, they moved to Selden, KS where they lived for approximately 14 years. They later moved to McCook, NE.
Robert is preceded in death by Ann in 2017; his parents; brothers, Donald Hazlitt, Richard Hazlitt, and Rodney Hazlitt; and sisters, Gladys Belford, Bonita Kobbins, and Vicky Maple.
Robert is survived by his sons Lonnie (Andrea) Hazlitt of Lake Jackson, TX, Monte (Mary) Hazlitt of McCook, NE, Harry (Tifinae) Hazlitt of Linden, NC, and Robert L. (Georgette) Hazlitt, Jr. of Grass Valley, CA; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Willa Roelle, Trudy Fuller, and Darlene Hazlitt; brother-in-law, Carl Roelle; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, are suggested to any charity of choice in Robert’s name.
A celebration reception with family greeting will be held at the Peetz Community Center, 526 Main St, Peetz, CO 80747 at noon to 2 pm MT on Monday, July 22, 2024. A private family burial will occur prior to this.
