Bay St. Louis, Mississippi - Robert James Heitzmann, a beloved resident of Bay St. Louis, MS and a proud family man, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2025, in Gulfport, Mississippi. Born on July 11, 1946, in Bay St. Louis, Robert was a shining example of kindness and compassion throughout his life.

As a dedicated retired engineer, Robert began a successful career working with NASA at Stennis Air Force Base, where he contributed to the advancement of technology in innovative ways. After his time at NASA, he continued his professional journey at AECOM at Kennedy Space Center in Port Canaveral, Florida. His commitment to his work was matched only by his dedication to sharing knowledge and mentoring others in his field.

Robert earned a master's degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, which provided him the foundation for a long and fulfilling professional life. He was not only an accomplished engineer but also a lifelong member of Our Lady of the Gulf Church and a frequent participant and supporter at St. Augustine Seminary, embodying his deep spiritual faith which guided many of his actions and relationships.

Those who knew Robert would describe him as the kindest gentleman, always willing to lend a helping hand, whether financially, in friendship, or spiritually. He spent countless hours volunteering at numerous organizations. He was an ideal role model, inspiring everyone around him with his warm demeanor and selfless nature. His love for life was evident in every interaction, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those he met.

Outside of his professional accomplishments, Robert cherished the simple joys of life, particularly spending time fishing with his buddies. These moments brought him immense joy and created lasting memories that he treasured.

Robert leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years, Connie Heitzmann; their son, Robert Matt Heitzmann, and his wife Ashley; and his cherished grandchildren, Emma, Lucy, and Oswald "Ozzie" Heitzmann. He is also survived by his siblings, Marilyn Cardenas and Mike Heitzmann and his wife Pat. He now joins his deceased parents, George and Margaret Heitzmann and in laws, Emmette and Hazel Demoran in eternal rest.

Visitation will be held at St. Augustine Seminary Chapel, located at 199 Seminary Drive, Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, on, Friday, September 5, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Following the visitation, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the same location, starting at 11:30 AM. Robert will be laid to rest at Gulf Coast Memorial Cemetery: Edmond Fahey 2177 Longfellow Dr, Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, with burial services commencing at 12:30 PM.

Robert James Heitzmann will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his loving spirit, unwavering generosity, and the profound impact he made in the lives of many.
