Robert Lincoln Higgins, age 95, a resident of Tewksbury for 60 years, passed away at Lowell General Hospital on Sunday, February 8, 2026, following a period of declining health.
He was the beloved husband of Barbara E. (Clark) Higgins.
Born in Arlington on February 1, 1931, Robert was the son of the late Allen F. Higgins and the late Lillian M. (Zwicker) Higgins.
Robert was raised in Hyde Park and graduated from Hyde Park High School in 1948. Following high school, he served several years in the Air National Guard at the Naval Air Station in South Weymouth.
In 1954, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in the Korean War era, and he was stationed at Camp Lejeune and Okinawa, Japan. Robert loved working on the Sikorsky helicopters as a mechanic. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal for his Marine Corps service and was honorably discharged from active duty with the rank of Sergeant in 1958.
In 1960, he reenlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served with the 670th Radar Squadron at Ft. MacArthur in San Pedro, California, and in Ajo, Arizona, until being honorably discharged in 1963.
After the service, Robert worked at Peter Fuller Cadillac Olds in Boston where he met his wife, New England Automotive Distribution in Stoneham, and retired working at WJ Connell Co. in Franklin.
Robert was an avid General Motors automobile enthusiast and was the proud owner of a 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass.
He was a member of Massachusetts Society of Mayflower Descendants.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children. Mark E. Higgins, Cathy E. Cave, and Brian D. Higgins, all of Tewksbury, and Debra L. Rose and her husband Michael of Salem, NH; five grandchildren Nikki Cave and her fiancé Anthony Miano, John Cave, Joseph Cave, Vanessa Rose, and Alyssa Rose.
Robert was the brother of the late Franklin A. Higgins.
