Robert Higgins Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home on Feb. 23, 2026.
Robert "Beautiful Bob" Henry Higgins Jr. 71, entered the presence of God on February 17, 2026, at Saint Joseph Hospital, in Lexington, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on July 22, 1954, in Versailles, Bob was the son of the late Robert H. Higgins Sr. and Pearl Williams Higgins. He was the devoted husband of the late Marcella Higgins, whom he loved dearly and now joins in eternal rest.

A lifelong resident of Versailles, and faithful member of the Versailles Simpson United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir. Bob retired from the Woodford County Road Department. Bob was a man known by many and loved by all. He never met a stranger and had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcome. His warm smile, open heart, and genuine spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. Bob embraced life fully and cherished the simple joys - especially good music. He was a true fan of the classics, with a special love for artists like Rick James and The Temptations, along with many other legendary performers of that unforgettable era.

Bob will be lovingly remembered by his sisters: Linda Higgins of Versailles, Yvonne Wilson of Versailles, Marie Wills of Lexington and Judy Long, step-sons Mike Washington and Wayman Cunningham, grandchildren Arianna Washington, Arabela Washington and Marcianna Hogan, great grandson Samuel Washington nephews Glenn Wilson Jr, Jermaine Wilson and Jonathan Higgins, nieces Allethea Higgins, and Alexis Higgins, great-nephews Xavier Higgins, Zion Higgins, Bryce Higgins, Samuel Wilson and Brayden Wilson, great-nieces Amirah Higgins, Jordan Wilson, Kiersha Wilson and Arabella Higgins, great-great nephew Zaire Wilson, and a close friend Nan Washington. Bob's life was a testament to kindness, joy, and unwavering love for others. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy of warmth and fellowship will live on in the hearts of all who know him.

In addition to his wife and parents, Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Althea Higgins and stepdaughter Lynn Hogan.

Going Home services will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. at Versailles Simpson United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Jermaine Wilson. Pallbearers will be Richard Washington Sr, Richard Washington Jr, Curtis Carr, Gill Carr, Glenn Wilson Sr and Tim Middleton. Honorary Pallbearers will be Sylvester Howard, Donnie Morton, Kenneth Winkfield, William Harris, Jerry Owens, Jim Perkins and Zack Garrison and Rudy. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will immediately follow at Steele Cemetery.

Friends and family are encouraged to share messages of inspiration and memories on Bob's tribute wall at www.blackburnandward.com.
