Robert "Bob" Holtz, age 92, of Hastings, Florida, passed away on November 15, 2025 peacefully after a life of service, devotion, and quiet strength.

Born on October 23, 1933, in Detroit, Michigan, Bob was raised in Erie, Pennsylvania, where he developed the work ethic and patriotism that would define his life. As a young man he left home to serve his country, spending four years in the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard an aircraft carrier as a fighter-plane maintainer-an experience that shaped his deep sense of duty and pride in military service.

In 1955, Bob married Ruth Gibbs of St. Augustine, and the couple settled in St. Augustine, Florida in 1961, where they raised three children. Bob continued his military career in the Florida National Guard for more than twenty-five years, serving as a Special Forces non-commissioned officer and later as a warrant officer. Notably, he was a plank holder and First Sergeant of the Florida National Guard Military Academy (Officer-Candidate and NCO School), where he mentored countless Soldiers and helped shape the next generation of leaders.

After retiring from the National Guard, Bob continued in public service as a St. Johns County Sheriff's Deputy for more than eighteen years. During that time, he met and married Tamara Holtz of Amherst County, Virginia, and lovingly adopted her son, Peyton-expanding his family and embracing this new chapter of his life with warmth and pride.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Mary Holtz of Erie, Pennsylvania; his sister, Dorothy Randall of St. Augustine, Florida; and by three grandchildren, Kristy, Riley, and Curtis.

He is survived by his former wife and lifelong friend, Ruth, and his beloved wife and companion, Tamara. He is also survived by his children: Randy Holtz (Cathy) of Florala, Alabama; Peyton Holtz (Kayla) of Tampa, Florida; Rosann Holtz of Florala, Alabama; and Robin Peterson (Ron), also of Florala, Alabama. Bob leaves behind ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter-each of whom brought him tremendous joy.

Bob Holtz lived a life marked by loyalty, service, and an unwavering dedication to family and country. Above all, he placed his faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior, a faith that shaped his character and sustained him throughout his life. His legacy endures in the generations who follow him and in the countless lives he touched.

A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at St. Johns Family Funeral Home on Thursday, November 20th at 5:30 p.m. Fellowship and refreshments immediately following the service at the funeral home.
