Obituary: Robert "Bob" Ballantyne Jackson
June 13, 1939 – October 17, 2025

On a beautiful fall day, Bob Jackson passed away, peacefully at home after a long illness, with his beloved view of Cundy's Harbor as his backdrop. His life was a testament to service, community, and family.

Bob was born on June 13, 1939, in Worcester, Massachusetts, to John Wilson Jackson and Lillian Virginia Jackson (Danielson). During World War II, his family relocated to Chicago while his father worked for the US Maritime Commission, and after the war, they settled in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. There, Bob spent his formative years immersed in the Boy Scouts and playing multiple sports while attending local schools.

In his junior year of high school, Bob transferred to Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, NH graduating in 1957. He attended Dartmouth College, where he was an active participant in campus life, most notably as a member of Alpha Theta fraternity and Army ROTC. He graduated in 1961 with a B.A. in history and was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army Reserve.

Bob trained at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Europe Artillery Division while stationed in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, from 1961 to 1963 in A Battery, 2nd Howitzer Battalion, 5th Artillery. Upon returning to the United States, he pursued graduate studies at Rutgers University, earning an MBA in 1964, followed by CPA certification in New York State.

Over the course of his career, Bob worked with several companies including Haskins & Sells, Mohasco, Connecticut General, General Recreation, and Gallo. In 1975, he opened his own CPA practice in Monmouth, where he served clients with integrity and care until his retirement in 2010.

Service was the foundation of Bob's life. He gave generously of his time, talents, and resources to many organizations over the years, including the Monmouth Lions Club, Monmouth Federal Credit Union, and periodically a volunteer coach of the Monmouth Academy Girls' Track and Field Team -where he was known for his support and the post-meet ice cream stops.

In his later years, Bob continued to serve his community and faith through St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Brunswick, All Saints by the Sea Chapel on Bailey Island, and local organizations such as Save Cedar Beach and the Holbrook Foundation. He also served on the boards of Kimball Union Academy, the Maine Society of CPAs, and the Maine Board of Accountancy.

Bob is survived by his children: Joan Jackson Mummert (Keith), Ann Jackson Hutson (James), Gale Jackson, Alexander Woodruff (Lindie), and Stephen Woodruff (Lisa); and five grandchildren: Patrick Hutson, Catherine Hutson, Thomas Woodruff, Stephen Woodruff, Emma Woodruff as well as Lindsey Mummert Rocks (Andrew) and Mark Mummert. He leaves behind his cherished nephews Stephen Jackson (Nicole) and William 'Will' Jackson (Melissa). He was predeceased by his wife, Karin Zetterstrom Woodruff Jackson and brother, Stephen Daniels Jackson. His first marriage ended in divorce.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 9th, at 1 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 27 Pleasant Street, Brunswick, Maine.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's memory to some of the organizations closest to his heart: Harpswell Aging at Home, the Holbrook Community Foundation, and the Harpswell Heritage Land Trust or organization of your choice.

The family would like to thank Aging Excellence, CHANS Hospice and Amada Senior Care for their exceptional care of Bob and assistance in keeping him home and comfortable in his final months.
