Robert "Bob" Kamm, 85, of Milford, CT, formerly of Westport, CT, passed away peacefully on May 9th at his home. His wife of 56 years, Sue (nee Willard), children Rob and Sarah, and his three sisters were at his side.
Bob was born in Chicago, Il, the eldest of nine children of Robert and Helen (nee Mcdonald) Kamm. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard.
Bob graduated from Fenwick High School in Oak Park, Il and received a Bachelor's Degree in Physics from St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas where he played basketball. He also earned a Master's Degree in Physics from Illinois Institute of Technology and an MBA from University of Chicago. He enjoyed a successful career as a management consultant and international corporate executive rising to vice presidencies at Philips Electronics and Siemen's Corporation before retiring in 2002.
After retirement, Bob and Sue moved to an apartment on the East River in Manhattan where they lived for 17 years loving city life and traveling the world visiting all seven continents. An ardent history buff, Bob served on the Board of Trustees of The National Maritime Historical Society and was a docent at The Explorers Club in NYC.
Bob developed a love of water and swimming during childhood summers spent with extended family on Lake Michigan. Always open to adventure, he once joined the Polar Bears Club on Coney Island for a New Year's Day dip in the Atlantic Ocean and ventured (very briefly) into the Southern Ocean off Antarctica. Nicknamed "Walking Bob" by close friends, he enjoyed many miles on foot always seeking paths with views of water. At age 73, he completed The Great Saunter, the annual one day 32 mile walk around Manhattan Island.
He is survived by his wife, Sue, children Rob (Chantel) and Sarah, grandchildren Robert and Patrick, brothers Don (Gail), Jay (Patty), Tom (Cathy), John (Jill), sisters Helen (Jim) Faust, Rosemary Gerrans, Marilyn Kamm, and sister-in-law Susan Kamm along with many dear cousins, nieces and nephews. His was a life well lived, and he will be greatly missed by family and friends.
A funeral mass will be held in June at St. Edmund's Catholic Church, Oak Park, Illinois.
