Robert "Rob" James Kennedy, age 56 of Howell, passed away on May 12, 2025. He was born on December 16, 1968, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of James F. Kennedy and Kathleen Kennedy-Thompson.
Rob graduated from Redford Union High School in 1988, where he was known for his quick wit and sarcastic humor, traits that would endear him to many throughout his life. After high school, he honorably served in the U.S. Navy Reserves on the U.S.S. Dwight D. Eisenhower, dedicating several years to serving his country with pride and distinction.
On May 4, 1996, Rob's life was forever changed when he married his best friend and soulmate, Lisa Dawn Shantz, at the First Baptist Church in Northville, Michigan. Their love story was one for the ages, filled with adventure, laughter, and unwavering support. Together, they welcomed their beloved daughter, Shelby Kennedy, who would grow to inherit her father's kind heart and sharp intellect.
Professionally, Rob was a skilled commercial carpenter, a craft he honed and dedicated his life to. For the last nine years, he worked at Rayhaven in Livonia, where his colleagues respected him for his expertise and his unfailing commitment to quality and teamwork. Rob's hands built more than just structures; they built a legacy of excellence and integrity.
Rob's interests were as varied as they were vibrant. He found joy in the great outdoors, whether hunting, playing golf, or engaging in and coaching the friendly game of softball-a sport through which he met his beloved wife. His adventurous spirit led him to embark on numerous road trips with his family to places like Colorado, Florida, Houghton Lake, the Smoky Mountains, and Arizona, always enjoying the journey as much as the destination. He loved going to the movies with Lisa, sharing that special time and experience together. Those who knew Rob would call him in the middle of the night without hesitation, knowing he would be there for them, no matter what. His smart wit and humor were the life of any gathering, and his quick remarks would leave everyone in stitches. He was the kind of person who made the world a brighter place simply by being in it.
Rob is survived by his devoted wife, Lisa Kennedy; his daughter, Shelby Kennedy; his mother, Kathleen Kennedy-Thompson; his sister, Karen Folsom; and many other loving family members and friends who were his chosen family. He was preceded in death by his father, James F. Kennedy; his brother, Jamie Kennedy; and his stepfather, James Thompson.
Visitation for Rob will be held 2-9PM Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, MacDonald Chapel, 315 N. Michigan Ave, Howell, and 2-9PM Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at the funeral home with a moment for eulogies Wednesday at 6:30PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on 10:30AM Thursday, May 22, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 425 E. Washington St., Howell, with visitation beginning at 9:30AM.
