Robert Edwin Kilkelly Jr., 97 of Costa Mesa passed away on Wednesday December 18, 2024 peacefully in his sleep at his home. He is survived by his sister, Monica Leggett, his sons Joe (Laurie) Kilkelly, John Kilkelly, his daughter Corinne (Martin) Morgenstern, his granddaughter Megan (Colin) Donnelly, 6 grandsons, Michael and Kevin Morgenstern, John Paul (Tara) and Patrick (Alex) Kilkelly, James and Jordan McKenna, and his 6 great grandchildren, Rory, Jack, and Ryan Donnelly, Kuma, Aiden and Caleb Kilkelly. He is predeceased by his wife, Barbara Jeanne Kilkelly, his younger brother Jack Kilkelly, and his oldest son Bobby Kilkelly.
Robert (Bob) was born in Los Angeles, California and graduated from Loyola High School in 1945. He attended St. Mary's College in Moraga before he was drafted into the army in 1946. After he served in the military from 1946-1947 he graduated from Loyola University on June 17, 1951. He married his beloved wife Barbara Jeanne on May 5, 1951. Bob and Barbara were married for 69 years before she passed on June 6, 2020.
Bob was an avid golfer and played 3 days a week up until he was 92. Bob and Barbara had the love of golf in common and went on many golf trips together. He also loved football and even coached football at Black Foxe Academy in Hancock Park with his best friend Chuck Havorka. He never missed a football game on TV if he could help it. He lived the last 3 years of his life in Assisted Living, the last year at Vivante in Costa Mesa. He loved to go to the gym, play poker, and attend happy hour. He loved attending 12 noon mass at Our Lady Queen of Angels in Newport Beach with his daughter every Sunday. He had a deep faith and love of Our Lord Jesus Christ. He will be so deeply missed by all his family.
His funeral mass will be held at Our Lady Queen of Angels in Newport Beach on Tuesday, February 4 at 10 am. Reception will be held immediately following at Big Canyon Country Club in Newport Beach.
