He was born January 6, 1930 in Elkton, South Dakota to Frank and Bernice Kneip, the second of nine children.

Bob grew up in Elkton, SD and the family later moved to Arlington, SD. He graduated from Arlington High School Class of 1947. After high school Bob worked for the family business, Kneip Implement and later became owner/operator. He married his high school sweetheart Joyce B. Pederson on January 30th, 1951. Bob was a loyal member and Lector of Saint John's Catholic Church. He was also involved in Knights of Columbus, the Arlington Fire Department, Arlington investment club, Arlington City Council, and the Arlington Chamber of Commerce. He loved his hometown of Arlington and his many, many friends. He is well known for his own way of fixing and adapting projects that worked for him...such as galvanized handles putting wherever he needed. Bob and the monks built his casket at Blue Cloud Abbey. He also loved to travel, garden, and spend time with loved ones.

He is survived by his children Kathy (Randy) Englund Pierre, SD; Larry (Cindy) Kneip, Brookings, SD; Caroline (Scott) Hertogs, Hastings, MN; and Todd Longville, Kennebec, SD. His grandchildren: Brad (Dawn) Englund, Brian Englund, Matt (Allison) Englund, Jessica (Justin) Bunker, Eric Kneip, Collin (Maggie) Kneip, Lance (Rise') Steiger, Lisa (Thamsanqa) Khumalo, Alex Hertogs and Becca (Cory) Wilaby, Mandy (TJ Frederick) Longville, Jenny (Lance) Engel and Jake (Jordi) Longville.
