Robert Lavoie, 91, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2025, in the home of his youngest child, who lovingly cared for him in his final days.
Born on September 4, 1934, in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, Robert lived a full life of love and dedication. He joined the US Air Force and served 10 years working as a mechanic on different types of aircraft. While in the service he became a tennis pro and was known for winning many competitions. After leaving the Air Force, he moved his growing family to Portland Oregon and began working with aerospace manufacturing companies leading his team as their manager, before venturing out on his own. Robert started a glass block business building windows and walls out of his home. After much success he moved to a brick-and-mortar location expanding the business selling all types of doors as well. Robert was a hard worker, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend and neighbor, known for his warmth and generosity.
Throughout his life, Robert enjoyed many activities that brought him joy; including camping, fishing, skiing, and motorcycle riding, both on and off road with his family. He progressed to golfing in his later years and it became a passion for him which he enjoyed with his friends and family. Robert also took great pride in his gardening, particularly his magnificent blueberry bushes, which he shared with all. He loved to travel, exploring the world with his wife, and sometime his adult children and grandchildren. He was an amazing family man.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, five children, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, as well as extended family who will carry on his legacy of love and kindness. He was predeceased by his brother, father, mother and his fur daughter - Jazz.
Robert will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, sense of humor, and dedication to family. His family will cherish the memories of his stories and the joy he brought to their lives.
A Catholic Funeral Mass in his memory will be held on December 2 at 12:00 PM at Our Lady of Sorrows at 5239 SE Woodstock Blvd, Portland Oregon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Portland Golf Classic – Ronald McDonald House.
Robert's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and he will be greatly missed.
