Robert Samuel "Sam" Llewellyn, Jr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, in Wilmington, NC, at the age of 79. Born on March 18, 1946, in Richmond, VA, Sam lived a full and vibrant life, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Sam's career was marked by his role as a manager at the American Tobacco Company in Chester, VA, where he not only excelled professionally but also his devoted wife, Jessie Walls Llewellyn. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
A man of diverse interests, Sam was a passionate saltwater fisherman and a dedicated motorcycle racer. He found great joy and camaraderie as a competitive cornhole player and took immense pleasure in the art of furniture refinishing, always striving for perfection. His boat, which he affectionately referred to as his "baby," was a source of endless enjoyment, and he generously shared his cobia catch with neighbors. A true cat lover, Sam's gentle nature extended to all creatures.
Sam was a member of Grace Covenant Church during his time in Lake Norman, NC, where he found spiritual fulfillment and community. He was also a gifted bowler, frequently achieving the perfect game of 300 on his bowling league, a testament to his skill and dedication. He earned a Bachelor's Degree from Campbell University in North Carolina, reflecting his commitment to education and personal growth.
Preceded in death by his beloved parents, Carolyn Heck and Robert Samuel Llewellyn, Sam leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory. He is survived by his wife, Jessie Walls Llewellyn; his devoted daughter, Lisa L. Dunn; his grandchildren, Jordan Dunn and Patience Thacker; and his siblings, Janet, Barbara, and Paul.
Sam's love for family extended beyond his immediate circle, as evidenced by his role as a coach for his daughter's youth softball team, where he imparted not just skills, but also life lessons and encouragement.
