Robert Lohr

Robert Irvin "Bob" Lohr passed away peacefully on November 13, 2024, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, surrounded by his loving family and George's dogs, Louie and Sofie, who shared a special bond with him.

Born on December 26, 1947, in Willard, Ohio, Bob graduated from Willard High School in 1965. He attended Ohio Wesleyan University, earning a B.A. in history in 1969, and was an active member of the Chi Phi fraternity. It was at OWU that he met Susan Jane Barbieri, the love of his life. They married a year after graduation and shared fifty wonderful years together, raising their three children.

Bob is survived by his daughter Carole Ann Lohr of Nashville, TN; son Clark David Lohr, his wife Laurie, and granddaughter Kayla of Rogers, MN; and son George Robert Lohr of Chapel Hill, NC. He is also survived by his sisters, Carole Lohr, Janet Songer, and Kay Lohr, along with thirteen nephews and nieces.

Bob's passion for history and civil rights led him to teach history and social studies in Cleveland, OH, early in his career. He later obtained a CPA designation and dedicated the rest of his professional life to corporate tax accounting and financial management.

Family was Bob's greatest joy, and he cherished traveling with them, especially to their home in Wrightsville Beach, NC. His granddaughter Kayla was the "apple of his eye," and he treasured their visits. Bob enjoyed reading, solving puzzles, sipping Manhattans, and entertaining. In recent years, he found joy in cooking and shucking oysters with his children. His family and friends will deeply miss his brilliant smile, generous spirit, keen sense of humor, and loving presence.

A Roman Catholic Mass will be held on November 25, 2024, at 11 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes in Raleigh, NC, with a memorial following at his Glenwood Avenue residence. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to PBS North Carolina.
