Robert E. Macy

Robert E. Macy, age 96, was called home to the Lord on November 24, 2022, at his home in Sterling Heights, Michigan.
Robert was born on June 9, 1926, at home in Detroit, the second child in a family of six. Growing up, he enjoyed reading books by Mark Twain and going to the movies when he could get enough money together. As he got older, he worked many part time jobs, such as setting up pins at a bowling alley and selling drinks at the zoo.
After graduating from Denby High School, Robert joined the United States Navy during World War II. While he was in the navy, he boxed in boot camp, spent time in Chicago Navy Pier, San Francisco, and Nebraska. His time in the navy was fun for him as it gave him an opportunity to see parts of the world that he had never seen before.
When the war ended, Robert returned to Detroit and worked at the Dodge Main Factory in Hamtramck, McKesson & Robbins Drug Company in downtown Detroit, and then finding success as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service from 1949 to 1985, 36 years.
Robert met and married Mary Howard, a registered nurse, the daughter of Lebanese immigrants, and the love of his life. When Mary and Robert were first married, they lived with and took care of Mary's father before they started a family of their own and raised their five children. Mary and Robert were very involved in first St. Maron Church in Detroit and then St. Sharbel Church. A lifelong Catholic, Robert continued attending this church for the rest of his life.
In his last years, Robert enjoyed watching classic movies, reading the newspaper, eating at Roseanne's, taking walks daily, playing checkers, and spending time with his family and his dog, Tippy.
He is survived by his children, Patricia (Christopher) Cheaney, Margaret (Stephen) D'Addario, Judy (the late Ajay) Shah, Robert (Jennie), Jean (Bruce) Crane, 12 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Margaret (Gora) and Terrell Macy, his wife, Mary (Howard), his siblings, Madeline, James, Edward, Gerald, and John, and his two grandchildren.
Funeral Wednesday, November 30th, Instate 9:00am until time of Funeral Liturgy 11:00am, at St. Sharbel Maronite Catholic Church, 43888 Hayes Road, Clinton Township.
