Robert Allen Mainord, Jr., 89, of Woodville, died Friday, December 12, 2025. He was born on April 29, 1936, to Georgia Henrietta Evans and Robert Allen Mainord, Sr. in Sour Lake.
Robert Mainord honorably served his country in the United States Army for 21 years, retiring at a Major. A proud Vietnam veteran, he completed two tours of duty in Vietnam, exemplifying courage, leadership, and steadfast dedication to his fellow soldiers and his nation. While serving, he was awarded 2 good conduct medals, a purple heart, a bronze star and many other achievements.
Following his military career, he devoted more than 20 years as a Professor at Lamar Institute of Technology, where he taught Computer Programing, Electronics and Industrial Robotics. As a lifelong learner, he earned multiple college degrees and was widely respected for his intelligence, discipline, and commitment to education. He was always ready to share information with others and wanted to instill his love for learning to his students, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
His hobbies included a love of fishing and growing fruits and vegetables. His home was surrounded with hummingbird and squirl feeders. He loved photography and for many years had a dark room and would develop his photographs. His favorite graduation gift to give was a Nikon Camera. Robert was a Grand Life Master in Bridge, reflecting his sharp mind, strategic thinking, and lifelong love of learning. He was devoted athlete and sports fan. He played basketball and football in high school and played varsity for Nederland High School all 4 years and graduated in 1955. In the Army, he played football for the Army Football Team. He passionately supported the Houston Astros and the Dallas Cowboys, taking many trips to Dallas for games. He loved to share his love for his teams with family and friends.
Above all else, Robert had a deep love for family and for making meaningful memories. He believed strongly into pouring into the lives of his family, encouraging them, teaching them, and helping shape their futures. Whether through guidance, conversation, or time spent together, he took great joy in leaving a legacy of love and wisdom. He created a family tradition several years ago, that every Thursday at noon, any family member that was available for lunch would meet and he treated all who could come to a wonderful meal, keeping his family connected around a table. Even though he would insist on paying the bill, he would always say he was so grateful for each family member that was able to attend.
Survivors include his sister, Gail Mainord Jordan; nieces, Robin Jordan Franks and her husband, Scott and Deanna Jordan Bresee and her husband, Tom; nephew, Randy Jordan and his wife, Natalie; and his great-nieces and nephews.
His is preceded in death by his parents.

A gathering of Mr. Mainord's family and friends will begin at 12:00 p.m., with his funeral service at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Broussard's 505 North 12th street, Nederland. His graveside service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Pine Ridge Cemetery, Sour Lake.
