Robert Malin Obituary

Robert James Malin, affectionately known as Bob, passed peacefully surrounded by his loving and devoted family on August 10, 2025.

Bob, who had a love for thriller movies and the Fall season, was fittingly born on Halloween to Robert (predeceased) and Harriet Malin (ne Kane). Raised in Southwest Philadelphia, he was the oldest of seven siblings, of whom he is survived: Kathy Stocklos (Steven), James Malin (Dana), Thomas Malin (Claire), Daniel Malin (Terri), Walter Malin (Bridget), and Stephen Malin (Tina). Throughout his life, he embraced the responsibilities and commitments that came with being the oldest sibling - qualities he carried throughout his entire life.

A graduate of West Catholic High School, Bob never halted his curiosity for learning - always with a book close by or a new documentary to watch. It was his love of reading and learning that earned him the long-standing nickname "Dexter" - a shortened variation on the name Poindexter. After high school, he spent his early working years at the iconic Spectrum. It was this job that fueled his long-standing love for rock music and Philly sports.

Bob was married in February of 1977 to Patricia Anne Kenney (predeceased). They went on to have five children - Robert Malin, Lisa Lepperd (Aaron), Christine Malin, Stacy Foy (Terrance), and Kathleen Malin.

As a family of seven life was full of beautiful chaos; a revolving door of drop offs and pick ups, countless celebrations, and cozy Sunday dinners around a table that fit less than it held. The weekends were a whirlwind of to-do lists and chores that somehow always turned into fun moments together. Simple car rides with Dad to the grocery store felt like an adventure, sweetened by treats, treasured time, and fond memories.

As the Malin family settled into family life in Folcroft, PA. Bob became a cornerstone of the local youth sports community, specifically with The Folcroft Girls Club. He meticulously tended to the athletic fields ensuring every child had a place to play and grow. He logged an unimaginable amount of volunteer hours, for which the club honored him specifically. He had several roles over these years as an umpire, referee, and coach. He spent over a decade with the organization and was honored to be a part of so many memories. Whether on the sidelines as a fan or leading teams to countless victories, he was always present - cheering, guiding, and teaching.

For over four decades Bob worked as a dedicated Amtrak foreman. It was in this role that he met some of his oldest friends and created bonds that have lasted a lifetime. His work ethic was unmatched, and he took great pride in his job.

Those who knew Bob knew that he cherished nothing more in life than the time he spent with his three grandchildren. He was named "Pop Bob" and embodied all the traits you could wish for in a grandfather. He became fully invested in whatever his grandkids were interested in at that moment and somehow managed to divide his attention and quality time so evenly that all three of his grandkids managed to feel as if they were the most important to him.

Bob will be remembered as a man whose generous spirit left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. An avid golfer and lifelong learner, he found joy in life's simplest pleasures - a good book to read, a new episode of jeopardy to watch, and a wholesome conversation just to hear about someone's day. He had a gift for making people feel special and showed up when it mattered most.

A celebration of Bob's life will be held on Friday, August 22nd from 11am to 2pm at Cavanagh's Funeral Home 301 Chester Pike in Norwood, Pa. followed by his Service at 2pm In lieu of flowers the family asks that you honor his memory by spending time with those closest to you, learning something new, and finding time in your day to make someone smile.

Yesterday

You know, Bob had a lot of great qualities; a selfless parent, well read, a real finance enthusiast, softball coach, tireless volunteer for the "Folcroft Girls Club" and the list goes on. It may be easy to forget these things, but one thing I will not forget is, Bob had that rare ability to make you feel good about yourself anytime you had an interaction with him.

I will miss my friend.
