Robert "Bob" McCahill Obituary
Robert "Bob" Joseph McCahill, 60, of South Bend passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, March 13, 2024. Bob was born to John P. and JoAnn (French) McCahill on November 20, 1963, in South Bend, IN. He attended John F. Nuner elementary school where he enjoyed little league, playing football with his brother, and volunteering as a crossing guard. Bob graduated John Adams High School in 1982 and worked for Kenny Shoes before joining the US Navy in 1984. As a naval photographer, Bob was stationed on board the USS Shenandoah, and captured many parts of the world through his photos. In 1991, he was sworn into the Mishawaka Police Department and served his community for 25 years. In continuation of his civil service, Bob was elected to the St Joseph County Council District H in 2010 and served for eight years.
Throughout his life, Bob enjoyed his friends and family, and was often lovingly referred to as "Batman". Bob enjoyed rooting for Notre Dame, Navy, and the Green Bay Packer football teams, was known to be quick with a joke, and was an avid collector of facts. His friends, scattered throughout his life, are many, as Bob had the ability to talk with anyone.
Bob is survived by his wife, Beth McCahill; daughter, Rachael (Brent) Fuller; step-daughter, Caitlin (Nick) Rappelli; step grandchildren, Sophia and Gianna Rappelli; mother, JoAnn McCahill; siblings, John (Shelley) McCahill and Laura Kelty; nieces and nephews, Ashley, Courtney, Patrick, Joe and Mary Kate as well as many friends and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his father, John P. McCahill, Sr and his beloved dog, Smudge. Bob will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

I´ve known Bob since he was hired on MPD. Always a fair and determined officer. That carried further into his Council years. He was always quick and witted in response to almost any subject. MPD and our community was lucky to have him, and all that knew him are better off because of him! God speed and blessings Bob, and as well He watch over your family!
