Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rose Funeral & Cremation - Mann on Feb. 16, 2026.
Robert Lee McDougal, 89, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Autumn Care Assisted Living.

Born on January 20, 1937, in Enterprise, WV, Robert was the son of the late James Richard "Peck" McDougal and Katherine (Saunders) Vincent. After graduating from Shinnston High School, he honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he married the love of his life, Vera Elaine (McMains).

Robert and Vera spent most of their years together living between Florida and Tennessee. They both enjoyed golfing, bowling, and complaining-a trio of hobbies that defined their spirited life together. A dedicated professional, Robert retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory on October 1, 1996.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Elaine; his parents and stepfather, Edward Vincent; brothers James Richard "Dick" McDougal and David W. McDougal; sisters-in-law Lulu Belle and Donna McDougal; and stepdaughter Karla (Groves) Allen.

His legacy lives on through his daughter, Susan (McDougal) Drane of Pennsylvania; his sons, Robert "Bobby" McDougal Jr. of Pennsylvania and Rodney (Jennifer) McDougal of Knoxville; stepdaughter Carma Sue (Groves) Miller; stepson Douglas Kent Groves; and several grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In keeping with Robert's wishes, his request for cremation has been honored.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 8:30 AM on Friday, February 20th, 2026, at the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery located at 2200 E. Gov. John Sevier Hwy 168, Knoxville, TN.
