Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home - Miles City on Oct. 11, 2023.
Our dad, Bob Meidinger, passed away a day after his birthday on October 3, 2023 after battling end stage renal failure and succumbing to complications with pneumonia. Dad was surrounded by his twin children.
Robert "Bob" Leroy Meidinger was born on October 2, 1946, to Edwin and Ann Meidinger (Pasicznyk) of
Miles City, MT. He grew up with his sister and three brothers, Virginia Strohmayer, Richard, Gene, and Jerry Meidinger on the family farm in Kinsey, MT. This is where Dad started farming, which is the first of many trades he learned in his lifetime.
He graduated from Custer County High School and later was drafted into the Army.
Following being selected, he served as a Communication Specialists in Germany during the Vietnam War (1967-1969). Following an Honorable discharge from the military he returned home to marry Johnna Aye in September of 1969.
Dad started working with the Miles City Highway Department which later led him into starting his own business, Meidinger Construction. Over the course of running his own business he built many homes including his own in the Aye Addition. As the business prospered, he branched into Curb-Gutter and Asphalt. Development included areas all over Montana, including Spearfish Canyon, SD.
He obtained his pilots license and traveled with many friends and family all over the country including Mexico. His favorite activities consisted of a trip to Disneyworld, Deep Sea fishing and coyote hunting with Jim Michaels.
In November of 1979, dad was blessed with (Us) "TWINS". Two more toe heads to add to Miles City. Later the hair had shown our true colors when it turned Red for Tristin and a bit more on the cooler side Red/Blond for Travis. His children were everything to him. We have heard many times from dad's friends that he could not talk or praise us enough.
After many years of construction dad had returned to ranching with Butch Sweet and farming with Ray Sprandel. We are not sure what dad loved more "construction, farming, or ranching". But we all know that dad showed up early to all his jobs and likely the last to leave.
Dad shared his trade knowledge with us, and we both worked with him at different times. He coached Travis in football and cheered Tristin on the basketball court. Dad had many hobbies and interests, including fishing, hunting, gardening, and canning. He was a foodie who loved to grow his own food, harvest it, and make salsa. Some old stories of Mom and Dad putting on couples cooking dinners showed how much they both loved to cook. We all know some folks out there raved about Dad's treats that he would leave on your doorstep, bring to the bar, or even that special donut that he delivered to all our workplaces.
Bob was a loving father, papa, and grandfather. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, argumentative cuss, and sense of humor. He had made a promise that he would make it to watch his youngest grandson, Kyson, play football and he did.
Bob is survived by his children Travis (Ashley) Meidinger, and Tristin Meidinger; his grandchildren, Natalie Mury, Kyson Meidinger and Lillian Knudsen; and his siblings Virginia (Duane) Strohmayer,
Miles City, MT, Richard (Linda) Meidinger, Lemon, SD, Gene (Norah) Meidinger, Orange County, CA and Jerry (Sandy) Meidinger,
Miles City, MT.
Bob was preceded in death by his son Robert Meidinger; parents, Ed (Mary) Meidinger, and Ann Meidinger.
Dad will be deeply missed by all who knew him. "And he knew all of them."
In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to help cover funeral expenses. Donations in honor of Bob Meidinger can be sent directly to Travis and Tristin Meidinger at 315 S. Winchester Ave.,
Miles City, MT, 59301.
