Robert (Bob) C. Mitteer passed away peacefully January 18th, 2025 of natural causes. Please take a moment to share a kind thought or memory with Robert's family at www.andersonbethany.com.
Robert was born in San Diego, California and attended college at San Diego State. He married Lorie in 1959 and they had two daughters. Later his adventurous spirit led him to work for the San Diego County Park Service. He took a position as a park ranger at Auga Caliente County Park in the Anza Borrego Desert State Park where he raised his family until 1970. Then his free spirit led him to northern New Mexico to live off the land in Dixon, New Mexico. Along with farming, Bob and Lorie explored their artistic talents. Bob made beautiful wooden crosses with stained glass centers made by Lorie. These were sold in Taos, Santa Fe, and Los Alamos stores, and at craft fairs throughout northern New Mexico. Hearing the call of adventure again, he accepted a grant and moved to Quemado to learn how make cowboy boots. His next grant brought him to Roswell, New Mexico to learn silver smithing.
He and his wife Lorie settled in Roswell in 1973 and their daughters both graduated from Roswell High School. He was respected by his co-workers at Transportation Manufacturing Company (TMC) a bus manufacturing plant in Roswell. TMC was later sold to Nova Bus and Bob retired from Nova Bus in 1998. Robert was life long "hippie" often seen wearing concert T-shirts. He also loved riding horses with his wife. They would trailer their horses up to Bonita Lake to ride in the mountains, and also went riding in the Pecos Valley Wilderness area with Vince Carter, Ron Jackson, Don Brandon and Bill Hahn. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, riding his bicycle and being Lorie's number one fan at The Gallery on Fifth Street and helping with Pecos Valley Quilters quilt shows. He loved playing with his grand children and great-grandchildren. He always stacked the deck when playing Candyland with his grand-daughter, Ashley, so she could win.
He is beloved and will be missed by his wife and family. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Loretta (Lorie) R. Mitteer; his daughter Suzette Brown and her son Jason Brown; his second daughter Vanessa Hendrix Bell and her husband, David Bell and her daughter Ashley Hendrix DeAmusategui and Ashley's husband Joshua DeAmusategui and their children Connor, Spencer and Wesley.
Private service will be held at home and friends are welcome to contact Lorie.

I met Bob when I took a job at TESCO SIGNS as a TIG Welder for aluminum extrusion signs. Bob and Hart Evan´s were sign makers in the back end of the sign shop. Bob and Hart were quite a pair and fun to be around. I kept in touch with Bob and Lori and Bob´s two daughters Suzette and Vanessa. They had a Great Dane named Clavo which means Nail in Spanish. Bernice and I would have many excursions with Bob and Lori throughout the many years with fond memories of them both. Jack and Bernice Werley
