Tribute
Robert Christopher "Chris" Moak of
Mobile, Alabama, passed away suddenly on January 16, 2026, at the age of 39. Born in Mobile on April 24, 1986, Chris lived a life marked by his passion for family, friends, food, fun, and football ("Roll Tide!").
Chris graduated from Davidson High School in 2004 and furthered his education at Winthrop University and the University of Alabama. His professional journey was notable for his roles in the hospitality industry, where he excelled as manager at Rock'N Fish in Manhattan Beach and The Lark in Santa Barbara, and served as a wine host at Carr Winery in Santa Barbara and Brave & Maiden Estate in Santa Ynez. His charismatic presence and dedication made him a beloved figure in each of his roles.
Chris met his wife, Lisa, in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, in 2013, where he served her and her sister and husband at the Caribbean Fish Market, a high-end oceanfront restaurant. They shared a vibrant life together, moving to Manhattan Beach in 2014 and Santa Barbara in 2019. They married on August 31, 2019, in the Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico, surrounded by loved ones.
Chris's personal interests included being a gifted soccer goalkeeper and an outstanding home chef. All who were fortunate enough to try Chris's home cooking were in for a treat. Chris came alive when he traveled, and he and Lisa explored many countries together. His favorite trip was to Vietnam, influenced by the legendary Anthony Bourdain.
Chris is survived by his wife, Lisa; his children, Lola and Milo; his mother, Christi Snypes Moak; his father, Rob (Terri) Moak; brother, Lucas Moak; beloved aunt, Julie (Ken) Sanderson; uncle, Al (Susie) Snypes; cousins, Dillon (Madeline) Sanderson and Logan (Juliana) Sanderson; treasured friends, Trey Wallace, Hayden Mitchell, and Ken Nabors; parents-in-law, Doug and Karen Saubert; brother- and sister-in-law, Kevin and Sarah Lang; nieces and nephews, Josie, Chester, and Willow Lang; and a host of loving relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his uncles, Ken Moak, Brian Moak, and Scott Moak; and his grandparents, Robert and Laverne Moak and James and Anita Snypes.
A service to celebrate Chris's life will be held at Woodridge Baptist Church, 2700 Schillinger Road South,
Mobile, Alabama, on Saturday, February 21 at 1:00 p.m. There will also be a celebration of life at Carr Winery in Santa Barbara on Saturday, February 7 from 3-6 p.m., and at Rock'N Fish in Manhattan Beach on Sunday, February 15 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
