Niagara – Robert E. Morstad, 93, of Niagara, WI., passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Optalis Health and Rehab, Kingsford, MI.
Robert was born on July 13, 1931, in Niagara, WI., to the late Phillip and Mabel (Wright) Morstad.
He served as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1954. He married Dolores "Lorry" Peterson, she preceded him in death on May 15, 2017 after sixty-three years of marriage.
Robert was an outstanding athlete at Niagara High School and played multiple sports throughout his lifetime. He was a member of the Oak Crest Golf Club and enjoyed playing in the Monday golf league for many years.
Dad worked forty-three years in the Niagara Paper Mill as a millwright. In retirement, Dad and Mom enjoyed spending the winters in Florida, and traveling around the country.
He is survived by his sons, Dean (Betty) Morstad, and Boyd (Vicki) Morstad; daughters, Lynn (Mike) Crosby, Dawn Simkovski, Robin (Dan) Hager, Jamie (Scott) Pratt, and Diane (Jay) Keeley; thirteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents and loving wife of sixty-three years, he was preceded in death by his brother, Phillip Morstad; and sisters, Donna Morstad, and Grace Marcouillier.
Visitation will be on Saturday, August 24, 2024, from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m., at Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain, MI. A Celebration of Life will follow the visitation at 5:00 p.m., at the funeral home with Pastor Bob Malsack officiating. Private family burial will be at Niagara Cemetery, Niagara, WI.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at the VA in Iron Mountain for the wonderful care they extended to our dad over the past several years.
